So you didn't actually fix it… when you do the duet there was still no sound.
Went to settings on iPhone. Turned mic back on and off (after trouble shooting everything else) and it works!
Why can't I hear myself in the mix when recording the Duet? I am recording an instrument. How do you turn on "Input Monitoring"? I can only hear myself as recorded on playback review. I should be able to hear myself live while recording along with the original video in my headphones . . .

"I had the same problem, but when you go to duet a video look at the right hand corner where the timers and filters are and there should be a microphone button. Mine was off so it didn’t record sound so all you have to do is turn the microphone button on. Let me know if that fixed it!" – Erin Fowler

Everything in this video at best is a work around, not a fix. Notice you never got the icon back for the mic, nor did you record audio in the duet without using the voice over function. This voice over function does not work for people who are trying to musically accompany other creators due to them not being able to hear the original audio while recording. Why would you ever title you video as "fix" when you never fixed the problem…?
React adds a delay
If im trying to record and there is a sound in the background how can i record with my voice without voice over?
I fixed it! On my iPhone, I went to settings->tiktok and I hit the toggle called “microphone” and turned it off. Then I went to duet the vid and it’ll ask for microphone access and will lead you back to settings where you turn it on. After that I reloaded tiktok and tried dueting and got the mic option on the right side.
