Alphabet (Google) is trying to strong arm streaming devices makers into using a new low cost codec (AV1). This codec requires hardware and software on both ends to work. The vast percentage of streaming devices and SmartTVs can't use this codec.
This is the reason Roku is feuding with Google's YouTube TV. Roku's only got 2 devices and NO SmartTVs that can use this codec. For the record, Google's own streaming devices can't use it either. It's time to put Google on notice, stop the bullying or lose customers.
I am backing team Roku!
The end user always loses out on this type of spat between tech giants. They don't usually care too much about us, the users…
I'm sticking with youtube tv and Roku for now, just not deleting my app
