Louise Tucker / Charlie Skarbek – Midnight blue (1982, 480p)
Transfered today, in 2012, from a CBS VHS-cassette released in 1982. 30 years old, and the quality of this particular video were quite low from the beginning. Anyhow, this is as good as it gets with this source and a somewhat limited budget. All the expected bells n’ whistles used, time base correction, SVHS-deck etc.

What a haunting, but beautiful song, I heard it back in the 1980's

  9. I first heard this song as an 18 year old in August 1983, on the last night of a South Pacific Cruise on the famous old P&O Cruise ship Oriana returning to Sydney Australia after a 12 night Cruise. This song haunting me for years till I heard it played again on a Sydney AM station a few years later 2CH, I rang the station and they said I should check out a record store in Hurstville in Southern Sydney where I could find a copy. Still love this song 34 years later.

Song based on Beethovens Piano Sonata Pathetique no 8 2nd movement

  12. This magnificent song remained in my memory since I first heard it back in the early 1980s on New York City easy listening radio station WRFM. They mostly played the popular instrumental version performed by European orchestra leader Caravelli. On a rare occasion WRFM played this vocal recording, too. Hearing this recording again brings back wonderful memories of my college years at S.U.N.Y. attending Farmingdale, Long Island, New York, in the early 1980s. Whatever happened to Louise Tucker and Charlie Skarbek? Never heard from them again. Here is a bit of trivia: Did you know the melody from this song is also the melody from the Piano Sonata "Pathetique" by Ludwig von Beethoven?

  13. I too heard this on radio in St Louis, Missouri and called DJ and got the artist name and found it. 1990, what a year!😍This song will always bring me back to that time! Love it!😊

I searched for this song for quite a few years and never could find it. Found a DJ from a Indy radio station that helped me search. Never knew who this song was written about, but it held a spot in my heart for a special reason. Now I understand it even more than I did then. Wish it she was more avbl in the USA.

  17. Summer of '83 late night on a road trip between Wichita and Denver I heard this. Always wondered about it. Google searched "classical synthesizers midnight." Endorsed up at the same tune, checked all music.com for midnight blue- compositions-1983 and earlier. Thanks for posting and helping me solve a 32-year-old cold case!!

Considering the quality of the video used in 1982 as opposed to now and the fact its almost 30 years old, it's in very good shape.

This song (which peaked at #46 in the US in the summer of 1983) never really got the airplay it deserved when it first came out, likely from shifts in music tastes then. If this song was re-released as a single now, it would probably be a much bigger hit than it was when it came out.
